Rihanna Picks Up Pen For ‘Unapologetic’With a career spearheaded by careful management, hit producers and well publicized aesthetic changes, Rihanna has oft been accused of being everywhere but in the driving seat of her own success. However, perhaps in a bid to capitalize on her own brand for the first time, she has secured herself publishing credits for 12 songs found on her new LP, ‘Unapologetic’. Details below… Earlier today, the following was unveiled on ‘Rihanna Now‘ - listing the vocalist as one of the many writers on the LP which boasts confirmed contributions from Elijah Blake, David Guetta and Brit Pop sensation Labrinth. 1. “Phresh Out The Runway” – Written by David Guetta, Giorgio Tuinfort, Terius Nash and R. Fenty. Produced by David Guetta, Giorgio Tuinfort for What A Music Ltd. / Piano Music and Terius Nash for The Nash Estate. 2. “Diamonds” – Written by Sia Furler, B. Levin, M.S. Eriksen and T.E. Sure to secure her a sweet chunk of the album’s publishing, her alleged hand in crafting the album will undoubtedly see her rank highly in many a ‘Forbes’ ‘Rich List’ come next year. Lists, which oft sees the likes of Beyonce & Lady GaGa dominate by way of finances earned from their songwriting credits. Quite interestingly, the album’s booklet doesn’t seem to concur with the information published on ‘Rihanna Now’, threatening to throw the star’s ‘songwriter’ claims into disrepute. Sales Predictions Are In: Rihanna’s ‘Unapologetic’ Set To Sell…As the age-old adage goes, seven is number of perfection. And oh does that seem true for Pop rebel Rihanna. For after seven tries, it appears the Bajan bombshell is set to score her first US #1 album with ‘Unapologetic’. Details after the jump… According to the ever-reliable Hits Daily Double, the ‘Diamonds’ led set (which hit stores yesterday) is on-course to top next week’s Billboard 200 with sales of… 240,000 – 260,000 Say what we will about Ms. Fenty, we must give kudos where they’re due. Hence, why we extend our early congrats to Roc Nation, her label, and all involved with cooking up this Milli Vanilli styled scam. It’s been a costly journey (literally), yet one which finally seems to be paying off. For, not only is Rihanna starting to achieve a fraction of the commercial “status” she’s been faking for years, she’s become an industry revolutionary of sorts. Don’t laugh, we’re being serious. Indeed, who -more than her- has evoked the amount of “I know she can’t sing, sucks at dancing, but I just love her personality” flavoured comments? No one. A fact which proves her and her team as one of the main forces behind mass acceptance of mediocrity in the music industry; the prime purveyors of the models-with-a-mic and fast food McMusic. Still, being the fair and unbias outlet we are, we must – once again – extend our congratulations. For Rih’s sake, let’s hope it’s not premature. ThatGrapeJuice

Rihanna Racks Up 12th #1 Single, Ties MadonnaThat Rihanna reign will not…let…up. Indeed, the “singer” – after 6 previous attempts – has earned her first #1 album with ‘Unapologetic’ – her 7th studio effort released this week. And, while her faithful Navy rejoice at the news, her record label home Def Jam just gave them more reason to celebrate… Rihanna’s newest accomplishment sees her surpass late legendary pop icon Whitney Houston‘s 11 #1s and now tie Queen of Pop Madonna‘s 12 #1s (for female artists). If Riri notches a 13th, she will technically (if Diana Ross’s accomplishments are excluded) be the female with the second-most reigns atop the singles chart – second only to Mariah Carey. The feat comes less than a year after it was announced Rihanna broke another of Madge’s record - most top 10s in shortest amount of time. Sigh…what is the world coming to? ThatGrapeJuice

‘Unapologetic’: Rihanna Dominates iTunes UK / Enlists Elijah Blake For ‘No Love Allowed’Next week’s sales of Taylor Swift’s ‘RED‘ may stop from her hitting the US #1, but it seems there’s no stopping Rihanna in the UK. For, three days after the release of her new album ‘Unapologetic‘, the singer has monopolized the iTunes UK singles chart, with numerous numbers from the LP charting on the grounds of its hype alone. Exciting details below… A testament to the LP’s success in the nation, 13 out the its 14 songs now sit pretty in the Top 200, making her the only act this year to land this feat. Now perched at #8, the project is already responsible for the #1 single ‘Diamonds’ which was recently certified Gold in New Zealand, Canada, Austalia and Italy while securing Platinum status in Australia with shipments of over 70,000 units. However, though ‘Diamonds’ continues to dominate many a singles tally worldwide, it’s her Island tinged number ‘No Loved Allowed’ that has many a critic foaming at the mouth this week. Penned by ‘Climax’ writer Elijah Blake, the cut came to our attention back in October upon speaking to the vocalist. He shared exclusively: “I cant say too much about what I worked on with Ri, other than it’s a song that represents her artistry at its core being, in that we’re both from the Islands. I was able to tap into an element that I feel is going to add great texture to this album.. I was also hype to wake up to her tweeting the lyrics to a special song I wrote as well.. So we’ll see!” Unfamiliar with song? Listen below! Yet to experience Elijah? Check him out here: ThatGrapeJuice

Must-See: Rihanna Makes It Rain ‘Diamonds’ On ‘The X Factor UK’Wrapping a week of non-stop promotion, Rihanna took front stage centre tonight on the The X Factor UK, delivering a show-stopping performance of chart-topping single ‘Diamonds’. Let’s just say the ‘Unapologetic’ performer turned in a showing she won’t be saying sorry for. It happened. Rihanna…dare we say…slayed! Yes, the smoke and mirrors were basically a metaphor for her career, but kudos where they’re due, that was an outstanding performance. “Shade” as we may, our prime problem with the 24 year old is her position as Pop’s most consistently inconsistent act. Indeed, few can rival her uncanny ability to deliver a solid performance in one breath, only to serve up her worst in the next. Still, in the here and now, that was a great showing. More of this Rih…please. ThatGrapeJuice

‘Unapologetic’: Rihanna Lands First US #1 Album
Congratulations are in order for Def Jam’s Rihanna today. Yes, after seven years of going without a #1 album in her domestic market (the US), the Pop gem has finally scored the feat with her new album ‘Unapologetic‘. Details below…
In at #1 with a commendable 238,949 sold this week, ‘Unapologetic‘ surpasses sales of every other US release this week, marking the singer’s first time atop the Billboard 200. Indeed, while she is still yet to match even the worst sales scored by many of her closest rivals, her current chart reign can only spell good news for both and her team, who succeeded in selling the LP on the back of its lead single, ‘Diamonds‘. As it stands, the album has peaked at #1 in the UK, Australia (Urban) and of course, the US, almost falling prey to Taylor Swift‘s ‘RED’ which came in with 180,547 units one month after its October 22nd release.
She’s come a long way, hasn’t she?
