Rihanna is allegedly being lined-up to replace Whitney Houston in a remake of the 1992 smash hit movie, 'The Bodyguard.'RiRi’s name has been thrown into the mix of taking the lead role in the flick, which could mean the Barbadian beauty belting out the monster tune, "I Will Always Love You."Movie bosses are said to be looking for a new Whitney in a more modern take on the classic film, where the leading lady will be stalked by an obsessive fan via Twitter, Google Maps and TMZ. As well as Rihanna, the likes of Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift have also been mentioned to star as the female lead. Houston’s original bodyguard, played by Kevin Costner, is expected to be replaced by a former Iraq war veteran, who lands the role after returning from action. Deadline claim: “The goal is to take a young female singer with global appeal and give her the platform that The Bodyguard did Houston.”The remake will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Whitney and Costner’s original film, which made a cool $250 million at the worldwide box-office. I can't imagine Rihanna in the same role. I think the Bodyguard was truly the best and Whitney is simply irreplaceable (even though in the beginning it was Diana Ross and Ryan O'Neal who were suppossed to play the main roles).

I can't see Rihanna in this role. They should get Jennifer Hudson. I guess they're trying to go for the teen crowd though.

Rihanna Not Interested In Remake Of “The Bodyguard”Rihanna has no interest in filling Whitney Houston’s shoes in the upcoming remake of 'The Bodyguard,' because she refuses to play a singer on the big screen. The "Umbrella" hitmaker is set to showcase her acting talents in upcoming blockbuster Battleship and hopes to follow up her debut with more film roles. But the Bajan beauty will never take on Houston’s role as a singer in a revamp of 'The Bodyguard' – because playing a musician wouldn’t be a “challenge.”When asked if she’s interested in the remake, Rihanna told OK! magazine, “Absolutely not. I want to separate the two. I hate it when singers do singing movies all the time because you can never look at them as anybody else.“I want to play a character. My whole life is playing Rihanna, (so) being a singer (in a film) won’t be a stretch for me. I like challenges and being an actor is playing a role, being able to step into somebody else’s shoes, that’s the excitement.”Source

I don't think that playing a singer in the film is a bad thing. I remember Diana Ross' first starring role in "Lady Sings The Blues", for which she was nominated for an Oscar. Liza Minnelli had been a singer too before she played in "Cabaret". But it's good to see that Rihanna has ambitions...Hopefully she won't end up like Madonna or Mariah Carey!
