Hot Shot: Mariah Carey Hits Studio With DarkchildWith a promise to unwrap new material this Summer, Mariah Carey has been hitting the studio to ensure her word stays firm. After notching up time with the likes of Jermaine Durpi and DJ Premier, the songbird teamed up with hitmaker Rodney 'Darkchild' Jerkins for her latest sessions. Taking to Twitter, the 42 year old wrote of collaboration with Jerkins (who she last worked with on 2005's Twista assisted "So Lonely"): "In the studio with RJ- yeaah, having a nice time!" she wrote on her Twitter profile. Mariah Carey "In Serious Talks" to Judge 'American Idol'On the same day after it was announced that Jennifer Lopez would be leaving her gig as a judge on "American Idol," People.com has learned that fellow DIVA Mariah Carey is in consideration to judge the Fox reality show. "She's in play," an insider told the publication. "They are in serious talks." Earlier this year, when it was announced that there would be judge shake-ups at Fox's other singing show, "The X Factor," Carey was reportedly in consideration to judge that show, although Demi Lovato and Britney Spears have since accepted the jobs. Just a few hours before Tyler left "Idol," fellow judge Jennifer Lopez was on NBC's "Today" show, where she hinted that it might be time for her to move on from her judging role. She is reportedly still in negotiations and undecided for next year. There has not yet been an announcement about the future of the show's third judge, Randy Jackson, who has been on "Idol" since its first season. Source

Nick Cannon: “I’m Not Sure American Idol Can Afford Mariah Carey”Jennifer Lopez‘s shock departure from American Idol has seen many a name touted as a potential replacement. One of the most speculated is the 42 year old’s age-mate and rival Mariah Carey. And while the diva (of all divas) remains “mumm” on the topic, her trusty husband Nick Cannon couldn’t resist voicing his opinion (a filtered version of hers, perhaps) into the mix. Watch what he had to say after the jump… Idol may not be able to “afford” Mariah, but her career could definitely afford Idol. Let’s keep it all the way 100. For, as cemented as her legendary status is, her contemporary relevance (after a string of chart disasters and a cancelled album) is at best “untested” and at worst “hanging by a string”. Despite her wealth of talent, there sadly exists a much-subscribed to industry age bias – which tends to commercially “write-off” females once they enter 40-street. Yet, as J.Lo showed, the “afflicted” can grant themselves relative immunity by exploiting a popular platform such as Idol; a platform which panders to the record-buying mass. Hence, how Team Mariah act like such shows are “below” her when her record sales are “below” the norm beats me. Here’s hoping they see sense and collect that cheque! ThatGrapeJuice

She’s Back: Mariah Carey Announces New Single ‘Triumphant’After teasing fans with a Summer return, Mariah Carey has held true to her word by announcing her comeback single ‘Triumphant’. And this time, she’s enlisted some help. Details after the jump… Writing on Twitter moments ago, Mimi wrote: “So I can finally announce to you that my new single is coming out early August! It’s called TRIUMPHANT (Get ‘Em) ft. Rick Ross & Meek Mill.
I wrote TRIUMPHANT when I was going through a difficult time & it helped me get through it. When u hear it, pay attention 2 the lyrics#WIN“********** Yes! Here’s hoping Mimi serves up hot fire with this one, as her relevance to today’s charts (and audience) ultimately hangs on the success of this single. Still, as history has shown, the diva has the uncanny ability to deliver when the odds are stacked at their highest. ThatGrapeJuice

Mariah Carey In “Final” Talks To Judge American IdolDespite husband Nick Cannon jokingly suggesting that reality talent show titan ‘American Idol’ would not be able to “afford Mariah Carey“, it appears the show’s executives are looking to prove otherwise… For, as widely speculated, the heels of ‘Louboutin’ singer Jennifer Lopez‘s exit has excited rumors of who would come as her replacement. Now, reports have now surfaced indicating the ‘Vision of Love’ diva has ‘Idol’ in her views…to the sum of a cool $17 million for one season. If in fact the deal does finalize, the singer’s paycheck would trump that of ‘X Factor USA’ rival Britney Spears who saw her payout reach $15 million. A position (on X Factor), ironically, that Carey was also rumored to be vying for at the announcement of its U.S. spinoff. The announcement comes on the heels of Carey revealing her ‘Triumphant’ return, set to make a splash on radio in August. (Source: MTV) ThatGrapeJuice

Mariah Carey Becomes Highest Paid Talent Show Judge In History / Jennifer Lopez RespondsEveryone clowned Nick Cannon for claiming that American Idol would need to pay all the way up to secure the judging services of his wife Mariah Carey. Yet, a week removed from his comments, not only is the superstar songbird the new judge on Fox’s hit show, she’s made history in doing so. Find out why after the jump… Reports from both Deadline and TMZ confirm that the premium diva is receiving $17-$18 million for her services. And that’s just for one season. The hefty fee sees her auto-dwarf Britney Spears’ $15million cheque for the X Factor USA, while the judge she replaces – rival Jennifer Lopez – earned $12 million for her most recent stint on the show. Ironically, it is believed Lopez was lobbying for a raise into the region of what Mariah’s now earning. The producers supposedly said no. Ouch. However, staying true to her ever-ready PR script, the ‘On The Floor’ singer showed no hard feelings. Speaking on Carey joining Idol, the 42 year old told E! News: ”I think (she’ll do well), yeah! Why not?” She’s a musician for a long time she has a lot of experience. And it’s that experience you offer them at the end of the day, the contestants just want to get better and grow through the process.”Mariah, conversely, has never been J.Lo’s biggest endorser: Yet, it’s responses such as the one here that has us oh so amped for Mimi’s Idol debut; for not only is she able to serve up the truth wrapped in entertainment value, she embodies exactly what the show is about. Randomness: Pardon our cynicism, but is anyone else feeling this whole Mariah/Idol episode has been orchestrated for much longer than is being let on? After all, her manager is fellow judge Randy Jackson and she is now getting paid what Lopez was supposedly denied. All rather “convenient”, right? ThatGrapeJuice

Mariah Carey Scene Will Open Lee Daniels' "The Butler"Lee Daniels's "The Butler" started shooting yesterday in New Orleans. And there's a lot of news I can tell you EXCLUSIVELY about this film starring Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey. Quincy Jones has signed to compose the soundtrack. That's a big big deal. And now I've heard that Daniels will film a scene for the opening of the film with Mariah Carey and Vanessa Redgrave far removed from the White House setting of the rest of the film. Mariah is already said to be complaining about her makeup, which - as in "Precious" - she will be de-glamourized. And there’s more: because Liam Neeson is shooting Paul Haggi's new film in Italy, he had to drop out of the role of Lyndon Johnson. So Liev Schreiber steps in. (The role of Lady Byrd is said to be minor.) And Olivia Washington, daughter of Denzel and Pauletta Washington, will make her screen debut as a civil rights activist. "The Butler" will be Daniels' first PG-13 movie after more adult fare with "Monster’s Ball," "Precious," and "The Paperboy," his wild new movie that opens this fall with an Oscar tipped performance by Nicole Kidman. Hot Shot: Mariah Carey Sparkles On ‘Triumphant’ Video SetCheck out Mariah Carey looking all flavours of fierce on the video set of comeback single, ‘Triumphant (Get Em)’. The premium diva, 42, shared the shot on Twitter today, where she also promised more treats throughout the week: “On the set of the TRIUMPHANT (Get ‘Em) video shoot. Get ready for a triumphant week, we have surprises every day!” *********** With a video shot, the song expected to premiere on radio this week, and confirmation of a judging/promo slot on American Idol, Mimi’s current project is already being handled better than her last (see: ‘Memoirs’). And as one of the industry’s last true “divas”, we hope she embraces that status and delivers something truly compelling (versus the nursery rhymes she’s been peddling for the last few years). I guess the first taste of whether she has will come when ‘Triumphant’ arrives. Let the countdown begin… ThatGrapeJuice
