‘Roar’: Katy Perry To Join Lady GaGa At 2013 MTV Video Music Awards
As you read this, Katy Perry’s new single ‘Roar’ finds itself occupying #1 spots on iTunes outlets across the globe, the beginning of what’s set to be an impressive sales run for the number.
Tonight, in what will ensure that run grows itself a fresh pair of legs each chart week, the performer has been announced as one of the many acts lined up to rock this year’s MTV Video Music Awards!
Taking place on August 25th, this year’s show will see Perry deliver the very first live performance of the single, competing with Lady GaGa yet again.
For, in what will only encourage comparisons between the two, GaGa is scheduled to perform her single ‘Applause‘ at the same show for the very first time, three months before the November 21st release of her brand new album ‘ARTPOP’.

Katy Perry & Lady Gaga Singles Could 'Roar' Toward Digital Chart History This week could be a historic one for digital song sales. New singles from both Lady Gaga and Katy Perry are heading for big debuts on Billboard's Digital Songs chart next week -- and both should rack up major sales.
Perry's new single "Roar" hit digital retail at 12 AM yesterday (Aug. 12), while Lady Gaga's "Applause" is scheduled to make a retail bow TODAY (13). The latter's arrival is six days before its original release date (Aug. 19).
Industry sources are suggesting each should sell well over 400,000 downloads by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, Aug. 18.
A start of over 500,000 for each wouldn't be out of the question either.
The final sales tally for both will be released on the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 21. If both tunes sell over 400,000, it would be the first time two songs have debuted in the same week with more than 400,000.

New Katy Perry & Lady Gaga Singles Take Over RadioJust as the new tracks from Lady Gaga and Katy Perry are heading for big debuts on Billboard's Digital Songs chart next week, both are in line for lofty moves on the Pop Songs radio airplay chart.
After less than two days of airplay, Perry's "Roar" blasted onto the Nielsen BDS-based survey at No. 34. On the building Pop Songs chart, whose tracking week began yesterday (Aug. 12) and runs through Sunday night (18), "Roar" is, as of this posting, already up to No. 16.
Gaga's "Applause," meanwhile, was released yesterday and has quickly joined "Roar" in the top 20, currently ranking at No. 19 on the building tally. (Both songs have received hourly plays on participating Clear Channel Media and Entertainment-owned stations, 'Roar' on Sunday and 'Applause' yesterday.)

Katy Perry ‘Roars’ With 40 Million Radio ImpressionsWith ten days to go until she rocks the MTV Video Music Awards in NYC, Katy Perry finds herself dominating US radio, helped in part by her recently announced Clear Channel deal.
A domination, that sings to the tune of 40 million radio impressions!
On course to end the year as one of its highest selling releases, the last week has seen ‘Roar’ reach an audience of 40 million listeners in the US alone, earning it the #29 on the Billboard Radio Songs tally.
Calculated by adding the total number of listeners tuned in to all formats when the song was spun on those formats, the single’s impressive reach will explain her current iTunes reign- seeing it perched at #1 on iTunes USA.Of course, as Lady GaGa‘s ‘Applause‘ cat walking its way to radio glory in the coming week, Perry does face serious competition- especially with GaGa set to unveil the video for ‘Applause’ on ‘Good Morning America’ this coming Monday!ThatGrapeJuice

Behind the Scenes: Katy Perry’s ‘Killer Queen’ CommercialIndeed, after etching her name in history books for clocking 5 #1 hits from her 2010 release ‘Teenage Dream’, the Grammy nominated songstress looks well on her way to a repeat if the strong sales of her latest single ‘Roar’ are anything to go by.
In just a matter of days, the tune is already on track to top digital charts with insiders projecting over 450k units moved by the week’s end – over twice that of her nearest competitor Lady Gaga (who, despite earlier reports, is now projected to move 200-250k in the first week of her tune ‘Applause’s release).
But, while fans wait with bated breath to learn which of the pop princesses will reign atop digital charts next week, Perry is undoubtedly hoping her new fragrance ‘Killer Queen’ will be met with an equivalent royal fanfare. Teasing her faithful Katycats with glimpses at its visual and accompanying photoshoot, now a behind-the-scenes look at its creation has surfaced.

Katy Perry Predicted To Pass 500k Mark With ‘Roar’ First Week SalesWell, meow!
Katycats have helped their leader claw to the top yet again, if reports are anything to go by. For, everyday that has passed since ‘Part of Me’ performer Katy Perry unveiled her new single ‘Roar’ (ahead of schedule), industry insiders have updated its projected first week sales. Each update, however, has been higher than the previous.
Originally, the first week forecast for the empowerment anthem was at 400,000, but updated to 450,000 days later. Now, if the most updated projections are to be believed, Perry will pounce onto charts this week with a whopping 500k+ in digital sales…
Via THR:
“Industry sources now suggest that her new single “Roar” could debut with 525,000 to 550,000 downloads sold by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, Aug. 18. “Roar” will easily give Perry the biggest sales week of the year for a song, and likely her largest sales week. At the present, her largest week was earned by “Firework,” which sold 509,000 downloads in the week after Christmas in 2010.
Meanwhile, the sales projection for fellow diva Lady Gaga‘s new song “Applause” is static: It should sell around 200,000 to 225,000 downloads.”

Fortunately for her, the live showing follows the record breaking feat she’s achieved this week- thanks to the Dr. Luke penned song!
Chart news below!
Thanks to 557,000 units moved in its first week of release, ‘Roar’ boasts of having the third biggest first week digits in US digital history, as seen in the list below.
Biggest 1st-week sales tally in US digital history:
#1 Right Round 636k
#2 We Are Never Ever Getting..623k
#3 Roar 557k
#4 Boyfriend 521k
Peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, the number’s US success comes as it tops the Canadian Hot 100, standing as the performer’s 12th US Top Ten.
In adding to this, the song now enjoys the record for shifting more units first week than any other cut in Brazilian chart history, snatching this record from Demi Lovato’s ‘Heart Attack’ with 3,569 copies sold!
