A Hemorrhaged Vocal Chord Continue To Plague Adele A hemorrhaged vocal chord has forced Adele to completely rest her voice and there is as yet no indication when she will be able to return. So far her label has said only that she will need "an extended rest period" before being able to perform. Fans have reacted with sadness to the singer's continued absence, as well as to fears that the British artist could have long-term problems with her voice. Following the Q Awards no-show, What-duh_Hal tweeted: "Adele, if your throat doesn't heal and prevents you making beautiful music I don't know what I'll do with myself."Adele's complete absence at the Q awards was in contrast to her appearance at the Mercury Music Awards - also in London - in early September. Then, the singer appeared in person to receive her awards, but a clearly throaty and congested voice meant that she was unable to sing. She told the audience that she was under doctors' orders to rest her voice and was "terribly sad" not to be able to perform. Earlier this month she cancelled a 10-city sold-out tour of the U.S. after the vocal chord issues that had forced her to cancel earlier British tour dates seem to have put her future performing in jeopardy. Adele Taking It Easy Following Throat Surgery Adele took to her blog to let fans know she's "super happy" and on the mend following a recent throat surgery for recurring vocal hemorrhages. "Thank you for all your positive thoughts and get well wishes," she wrote. "I'm doing really well, on the mend, super happy, relaxed and very positive with it all. The operation was a success and I'm just chilling out now until I get the all clear from my doctors."She then thanked fans who "voted for the awards I've won recently as well" and ended by remarking she "best get back to practicing my mime show now. Take care, miss you all."Her throat problems have plagued her throughout her year in the spotlight. On Oct. 7, Adele was set to kick off a string of U.S. tour dates, rescheduled from a June bout of laryngitis, but announced that she would be unable to perform due to the vocal cord hemorrhage. Why Adele Only Got Six Grammy Nominations? She may have received more nods than most last night, but Adele somehow does not lead the nominations for the 54th annual Grammy Awards, announced Wednesday night. How the heck could that be after the phenomenal year that she's had with '21' – easily the biggest-selling album of 2011 as well as one of the most critically acclaimed? Well, truth is, Adele is nominated in pretty much every single category she was eligible for. That leaves her with six nominations, including album, record and song of the year (the latter two for "Rolling in the Deep"). But that's four less than Beyoncé Knowles scored two years ago. This year, though, the Grammy categories have been streamlined, which partly explains why now Knowles, a perennial Grammy darling, only has two nominations in lesser categories, making for one of the bigger snubs. It's also a little misleading that Kanye West leads the nominations with seven nods, because all but one of them (song of the year for "All of the Lights") is relegated to the rap field. Instead, Rihanna surprisingly scores her first album of the year nomination for 'Loud,' hardly her best effort, and Bruno Mars is up for Doo-Wops & Hooligans, which, barely missing the cutoff for last year's Grammys, feels past its expiration date. Adele Shocked At All Her Grammy NominationsAfter Adele was nominated for SIX Grammy awards, she did what every good superstar does and wrote a message to her fans. In the post, she revealed how thankful and surprised she was to get such recognition: "Just home from New York, that's my main excuse for not posting a message sooner, but I'm also completely and utterly lost for words. A couple of days after finally being able to talk again I'm pretty speechless."Thank you so much to the academy for nominating this record for 6 Grammys!!! This has been the best year as it is but to end 2011 with this incredible achievement and honour is beyond anything I can express."Thank you to every single person who has taken a shining to this record, for making it have such an impact, this record has taken on a life of its own thanks to you. I made the record and you've made it what's its become."Source

Adele 'Artist of the Year' Q&A With BillboardIn your "Adele: Live at the Royal Albert Hall" DVD/CD, you talk about your cover of The Cure's "Love Song," and how your mum used to play it for you when you were little. Does she love that you covered it? How much in general has your family influenced where you are now, and what do they think of your success? "My mum loves that I covered a Cure song, yes. I remember their records being a huge part of my early life. The soundtracks to some of my first and fondest memories. They're a bigger part of my life now than they were then because I reference them in my writing and I'm aware I'm inspired by them."My family are obviously a huge part of where I am now, but my music and certainly my career are very separate from my home life. I don't and never have involved them in it but they've never gotten in the way of it either."They've always encouraged and loved what I've done from the moment I took an interest in music. I think they're as baffled by my success as I am. I don't ask my loved ones how they feel about it actually! There's too much other stuff to catch up on when we see each other."CLICK HERE to read full interview

Adele Set To Grace Vogue's March Issue"Rumor has it" that Billboard Artist of the Year Adele will be striking a pose on the cover of Vogue this spring. WWD is reporting that Vogue, the world's most influential fashion magazine, has recruited the singer for the March 2012 cover story. The magazine has reportedly already reached out to designers, asking them for "cover-worthy" fashions that are a bit larger than the tiny sample sizes that strut down the runway. "Designers have been asked by the title to make special cover outfits for the full-figured chart-topper for the all-important March issue," WWD Reports. Adele covering Vogue seems like a natural progression for the poised singer, after already having been profiled in Vogue back in April 2009, and going on to grace the covers of the October issue of British Vogue and the American edition of Cosmopolitan. Adele Rules 2011 And Starts The Year On Top In 2012Adele's "21" and her "Rolling in the Deep" single finish 2011 as the United States' top-selling album and song, according to Nielsen SoundScan. "21" sold 5.82 million copies last year, while "Rolling" moved 5.81 million downloads. And as predicted in the first week of 2012, Adele's "21" album jumps back to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, marking its 14th non-consecutive week at the top of the tally. The set sold 144,000 copies last week (down 64% according to Nielsen SoundScan) and continues to be the album with the most weeks at No. 1 since the "Titanic" soundtrack sailed with 16 weeks at No. 1 in 1998. Among all albums by women, "21" now ties Whitney Houston's self-titled 1986 debut for the third-most weeks at No. 1. Only Houston's own soundtrack to "The Bodyguard" (20 weeks in 1992-1993) and Carole King's "Tapestry" (15 weeks in 1971) have earned more among the ladies. Source

Can Anything Stop Adele's '21' Reign at No. 1? With few new major album releases out this week, Adele's "21" will likely spend a 15th week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart next week. It's projected to sell anywhere between 100,000 to 140,000 copies by week's end on Sunday, Jan. 8, according to industry prognosticators. It's edging ever closer to the 16-week No. 1 run of the "Titanic" soundtrack in 1998 -- the last album to lock up more weeks at No. 1. Further frames at No. 1 for "21" are possible, as the next challenger for the top slot could be the "Kidz Bop 21" album due out Jan. 17th. If "21" can claim a 15th week at No. 1, how does that compare to other blockbuster chart-toppers in recent history? Since 1990, only six albums have spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. "Titanic" racked 16 in 1998, as did Vanilla Ice's "To the Extreme" in 1990 and 1991. Billy Ray Cyrus' "Some Gave All" had 17 weeks at No. 1 in 1992 while Garth Brooks' "Ropin' the Wind" lassoed 18 frames in 1991-1992. The Whitney Houston-driven soundtrack to "The Bodyguard" (20; 1992-1993) and M.C. Hammer's "Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em" (21; 1990) have the most weeks at No. 1 since 1990. Source

Adele's '21' Returns To Top of U.K. ChartAdele's "21" sold another 38,000 units to move back 6-1 and become the album with the longest span at No. 1 for some 41 years. The Adele album is in its 19th aggregate week at No. 1, a run that started on the first of its 50 chart weeks in January last year. That becomes the longest calendar sequence since Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" between February 1970 and January 1971, during which time it had had 33 non-consecutive weeks at the summit. "21" is also the longest-running No. 1 by a female artist in U.K. chart history, and the sixth longest for any artist album, not including soundtracks. Adele's previous album "19" climbed 40-18 on the new chart and she has three singles from "21" in the current top 40, with "Someone Like You" falling 27-28, "Set Fire To The Rain" 32-35, and "Rolling In The Deep" climbing 45-39, its first top 40 appearance since September.
