Adele's '21' Passes 9 Million U.S. Sales, Hits 64th Week in Top 10The Adele train just keeps a-rollin' this week as her "21" album moves back up the Billboard 200 (up two spots to No. 2) with a 31% gain (101,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan). The mega-successful "21" also surpasses 9 million in U.S. sales too, becoming only the 29th album in the SoundScan era (1991-present) to cross the 9 million mark. An album last reached 9 million a year ago this week (May 15, 2011) when Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band's 1994 set "Greatest Hits" tip-toed past the threshold. "21" is also spending its 64th consecutive week in the chart's top 10, tying Paula Abdul's "Forever Your Girl" for the second longest top 10 run among albums by women. Leading the female pack is Alanis Morissette's "Jagged Little Pill," with 72 top 10 weeks. (Among all albums, the soundtrack to "The Sound of Music" has the most weeks in the top 10, with 109.) The set has sold 22,017,000 copies. 8 Jun 12 This extends Adelees lead as the highest selling act of the 21st century, and means f21e has keeps a position in the US top ten, a place she has not left since the project dropped. Herefs hoping Adelefs success will encourage labels to sign acts with a sincere passion for music, talented enough to front campaigns where the music and art takes centre stage. Because, as wefre sure XL and Columbia will tell you, theyfre reaping the rewards for pushing the album directly to the audience by touring before the album dropped, using the momentum garnered by e19Πto shine a light on her new material. Material, wide reaching enough to win spins on a number of radio formats, beneficial for obvious reasons. Material, despite popular belief, that shifts units not because epeople are fed up with whatfs on the chartsf but because much like Adele herself, seems sincere. ThatGrapeJuice

The UK publication reports that Adele was spotted at Abbey Road Studios earlier this month, where composer Thomas Newman has been reportedly at work on the score for "Skyfall" -- the next film in the long-running spy saga. Past contributors to the Bond series have ranged from Paul McCartney to Nancy Sinatra to Madonna. Newman's previous film scores include "WALL-E," "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Revolutionary Road,"another film helmed by "Skyfall" director Sam Mendes. Adele hinted that she'd be working on a Bond tune in an interview on "The Jonathan Ross Show" in 2011, laughing as Ross sung the franchise's opening theme to her. The track would be her first new material since the Grammy-winning "21." Fans will learn soon enough: the film, Daniel Craig's third in the iconic role, is due in theaters on Nov. 9. Source

’21′: Adele Sales Boost Label Profits To £41 MillionWith 24 million copies sold worldwide as of this month, Adele‘s ‘21‘ stands as the best selling album of the past decade- surpassing records previously held by Michael Jackson‘s ‘Thriller’ and Usher‘s 2004 mega seller ‘Confessions‘. Now, it has emerged that the singer’s record label XL Recordings reaped major financial rewards as a result of the LP’s success. Rewards, to the tune of $41 million. Details below… Following its January 2011 launch, the project boosted XL’s turnover from £21.4 million to £111.7 million. This, lifting pre tax profits from £4.1 million to a sweet £41.7 million. Unveiled by the Sunday Times Business supplement this week, the company’s impressive financial year is unlikely to be matched this year, with sales of the project cooling in recent months. Let’s hope this serves as a valuable lessons to rival labels, investing capital in music just as generic as the characters spewing them. For, as the continued commercial successes of Coldplay, Drake and Beyonce attests to, consumers will purchase albums if convinced the project is worth more than two or so singles used to endorse it. In short, the sooner labels begin to push acts of substance from all genres, the greater their chances of pulling in numbers akin to ‘21′ will be. Until then, major congratulations to Team Adele and any performer striving to deliver quality products in a cheapened market. Source.ThatGrapeJuice
